As New Zealand becomes more connected globally, we face a greater number of technological vulnerabilities. We need to have robust cyber security measures in place to mitigate cyber risks so that we can:
- protect and maintain the services that our country and economy rely on,
- protect our intellectual property,
- maintain our reputation as a stable and secure place to do business, and
- ensure that governmental and democratic processes remain free from interference.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is part of the GCSB, and is New Zealand’s lead operational cyber security agency, providing cyber security services to all New Zealanders — individuals, businesses and large organisations, government, and operators of critical infrastructure.
Services the NCSC offers include:
- providing threat intelligence and threat disruption,
- advising on national security risks,
- providing information assurance and information systems security,
- supporting regulatory regimes,
- supporting incident response, and
- providing guidance on security best practices.
Through its Own Your Online platform, the NCSC supports small to medium businesses and individuals, providing relatable ‘how to’ guides and information to help New Zealanders:
- understand the most common online risks and threats,
- know how to stay protected against cyber attacks,
- check to see if something's a scam, and
- get help when targeted by an attack online.
